Southern Italy
Wine from Campania
Since Roman times, Campania has been known for its high-quality wines. The rich history is continued today by many winemakers, who have often been passionate about making wine for generations. Not far from Naples you will find the Vesuvius volcano. The volcanic terroir produces outspoken wines. Legend has it that Jesus wept tears on Mount Vesuvius after Lucifer stole part of heaven over the bay of Naples, resulting in extra fertile soil.
A little further east, in the Irpinia region, you will find the absolute top of Campania's wine offer. In the red wine category, this region is dominated by the Aglianico grape. With good reason, because it produces, among other wines, the famous Taurasi DOCG: "the Barolo of the south". This region also produces fantastic white varieties, including the Fiano di Avellino DOCG and Greco di Tufo DOCG.
