Costantino Vini
Leonardo
About 25 kilometers west of Palermo, in the town of Partinico, we found Azienda Agricola Costantino. A winemaker as we like to see them; small-scale, organic and with a focus on native grape varieties. We met Leonardo Costantino in the middle of the busy harvest season, but that didn't stop him from making time for us. During a full evening we got to know his family and his dogs, his winery and all his wines.

Completely organic
Leonardo tells us how in his mind there is only one way to run a farm; completely organic. His analogy with antibiotics is an interesting one. Using antibiotics once may not be bad, but if you keep using it, your body will become resistant. You will have to keep using more and different drugs for the desired effect. Leonardo believes the same applies to the grapes and the land. That is why he chooses not to use any chemicals on his soil or in his vineyard.
Onofrio and Leonardo
The winery started with Leonardo's father, Onofrio (aka Nonò), who started the winery in 1960 because of his passion for wine and the Sicilian lands. For a long time, the family made only a few wines that were sold to local restaurants. But as these became more and more popular, Onofrio and his son Leonardo decided to expand the winery. Today Leonardo runs the winery together with his sons Onofrio, Andrea and Alexander.
Cooled by the sea
The grapes grow at an altitude between 250 and 600 meters. Especially the lower vineyards are situated relatively low for the warm and dry Sicilian climate, but due to the proximity of the sea that brings a cooling sea breeze, there are large temperature differences between the day and night. These are the ideal conditions for growing grapes for Leonardo's quality wines.
Fantastic wines
Mezzogiorno offers you the wines that we liked the most. All created from indigenous grapes, that are grown organically. In our product range of Costantino, we have four wonderful wines for every moment (the Aria-line and Ciuco) and four top line wines (Quarter, Capitolo I, Nonò and Cori). This adds up to three red wines, four white wines and a Passito dessert wine. Every one of them is worth it!
