Antica Enotria
Luigi & Valentina
Asking a local enoteca (wine bar) owner where the best wine in the surrounding area is made, has proven to be an excellent way to find fantastic wines for great prices. In the beginning of the 90’s Rafaelle and his wife Addolorata moved from Basilicata to Puglia. They recognized the incredible opportunities the area around Cerignola had to offer for the production of wine. They decided to buy 22 hectares of land for the cultivation of grapes without any use of synthetic products. This made them absolute pioneers in the field of organic farming in Puglia.

Tradition, quality and ecology
Their focus on tradition, quality and ecology was transferred to their son Luigi and his wife Valentina. Luigi strongly believes that when you grow your produce the way it was done centuries ago, the ecosystem regenerates. That is the reason why in the vineyards of Antica Enotria, you will only find native grape varieties.
Pure wines of high quality
Cultivating wine in this way for 30 years has made the soil richer and increased biodiversity. The harvest is done entirely by hand and before the grapes are pressed, all stems are carefully separated from the grapes to create a wine without woody tannins. The vinification process is completely natural. This means that no yeast is added to start the fermentation process. The results are wines that follow a long-standing tradition, where the soil and the grape are the stars of the show. Antica Enotria produces only typical Puglieese, pure wines of very high quality.
Part of an eco-system
When Luigi talks about his wines, you can feel the passion for his product in everything, but also his unique bond with nature. Luigi sees himself as part of the natural process of winemaking. He believes that he is only the catalyst to this natural process, and that the most important role is for nature itself. Luigi is just there as a facilitator and part of the biodiversity.
Time, patience and dedication
Luigi himself describes it better than we ever could: “It takes time, patience, and dedication to see the grapes turn into wine. It is a slow transformation in which the work of an entire year takes comes together at harvest time. With the harvest, the winemaking process begins, an important moment that brings into play all our passion and all our knowledge.”
Tomatoes, Artichokes & Eggplants
We quickly discovered that Luigi not only produces fantastic wines but also cultivates delicious organic tomatoes, artichokes, and eggplants. Everything is done by hand, without pesticides, and with the utmost attention to quality. We no longer make tomato sauce without Luigi's tomatoes, and we recommend it to everyone! Does it really make that much of a difference, you may wonder? The answer is clear, taste it for yourself.
