From lawyer to farmer

At the end of the last century, the nephew of the noble baron La Costa, Francesco Pacelli, inherited an estate with a vineyard and decided to end his career as a lawyer to continue the family tradition of winemaking. Francesco and his wife Clara have replanted part of the vineyard with species native to Calabria. In addition, they have also planted Riesling in memory of the baron and the international grapes he loved so much. This has led to some beautiful wines such as this Zoe.

Metodo Classico

Zoe is a sparkling wine created in the classic method. That is the same method used for Champaigns. It has been an interesting choice by the Pacelli's to choose a Riesling for this bubbly wine. Riesling is not a grape you often encounter in a metodo classico (or in Calabria). After the second fermentation in the bottle, Zoe rests on its lees (sur lies) for between 36 and 40 months. The choice of grape and the relatively long period sur lie leads to a very special, balanced yet aromatic and complex sparkling wine.

Pacelli women

This wine, produced by a strong team of Pacelli women, is organically grown. In this small but promising vineyard in the north of Calabria, a lot is still done by hand. The best grapes are carefully selected and vinified under the strict watchful eye of mother Clara and her daughters. The passion that goes with it yields the award-winning wines of Tenute Pacelli. The Zoe, named after the youngest Pacelli woman and granddaughter of Clara, is a wonderful example of this.

Delicate bubble

A deep straw yellow color and a refined bubble is how Zoe presents itself in the glass. This organic, bubbly wine is balanced fruity and floral on the nose. On the palate, this charming wine presents a palate of sun-drenched yellow fruit such as peach and apricot with controlled acidity and a subtle bubble. This wine holds up well with stronger flavors such as an antipasto with smoked salmon or vitello tonnato.
