The grape of the South
The Primitivo is the most famous grape variety from the South of Italy. And that is not strange, this beloved grape can be found all over the world, although often with different names. The Californian Zinfandel and the Croatian Tribidrag are exactly the same variety as the Primitivo. Traditionally, the Primitivo is a grape that was mainly used to give wines from the North of Italy more body and structure. Nowadays, the Primitivo is recognized for its own characteristics and the grape is becoming more and more popular in its own right.

Subtle and round
The Primitivo is known for its strong character. One would expect a full, heavy wine, often with a high alcohol content. Most Primitivi come from the South of Puglia, the dry Salento region, where the sun burns all summer. Vriccio, the Primitivo of Antica Enotria, is grown further North and the proximity of the sea cools the grapes. It gives the wine a lighter character. Of course, this Primitivo is a powerful, round wine, like we are used to, but this it has soft tannins and a reasonable alcohol percentage (13,5%).
Culture and tradition
Luigi, Antica Enotria’s owner, pays a lot of attention to culture and tradition. This is why all his wines are produced organically. The grapes are picked by hand and the fermentation is natural. This means that no yeast is added to start the fermentation process. Furthermore, to further highlight the light character of this Primitivo, all stems are carefully separated from the grapes before pressing to avoid woody tannins in the wine.

Vriccio is an organic Primitivo with a classic palate of plum and red fruit. It is a vibrant wine that reflects the character of its creator. Vriccio is an accessible wine and an absolute recommendation. This wine pairs beautifully with lighter meats like pork or turkey, but it is also very well matched with sheep’s cheese and grilled vegetables.
