Red earth
Terra Rossa (red soil) refers to the terroir on which the grapes are grown. Tenute Pacelli has a rich number of different terroirs. The Magliocco vines, responsible for this wine, are cultivated on red, clayey soil. The red color reveals that this soil is extraordinarily rich in iron and minerals, besides the also present limestone.
Native Magliocco
Tenute Pacelli's Magliocco grapevines honor the history of Calabria. This indigenous grape is one that you will not find much in other wines. There is a lot of uncertainty about the origin of the Magliocco. The grape has been known in Calabria since the 15th century and is believed to have originated in the north of the region, where Tenute Pacelli is located. It is a grape with a relatively thick skin, comparable to the Sangiovese and Savagnin and can therefore withstand the dry, warm climate of the south of Italy.
Pacelli women
This wine, produced by a strong team of Pacelli women, is organically grown. In this small but promising vineyard in the north of Calabria, a lot is still done by hand. The best grapes are carefully selected and vinified under the strict watchful eye of mother Clara and her daughters. The passion that goes with it yields the award-winning wines of Tenute Pacelli.
Full and spicy
Terra Rossa matures for at least a year in stainless steel tanks. The result is a ruby red, organic wine with a spicy nose of coffee, red fruit and the Calabrian pepper. The aroma is somewhat like a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. It is not a complex wine, but wonderfully full in the mouth, warming, without being too heavy. A wine to enjoy when the days are still cold. Balanced tannins and a palate of fig and the licorice plants that surround the vineyard combine into a real winner when it comes to price/quality, according to the connoisseurs.
