Old and new

The old vines of the northern grape Barbera and the more recently planted indigenous Magliocco come together in Pauciuri. The wine pays homage to the old Baron Gaetano La Costa, once the owner of the estate and the uncle of the current owners Francesco Pacelli and his wife Clara. Baron La Costa planted these old Barbera vines way back in the last century.

Rich history of Magliocco

With the newer Magliocco vines, the history of Calabria is honored. This indigenous grape is one that you will not find much in other wines. There is a lot of uncertainty about the origin of the Magliocco. The grape has been known in Calabria since the 15th century and is believed to have originated in the north of the region, where Tenute Pacelli is located. It is a grape with a relatively thick skin, comparable to the Sangiovese and Savagnin and can therefore withstand the dry, warm climate of the south of Italy.

Pacelli women

This wine, produced by a strong team of Pacelli women, is organically grown. In this small but promising vineyard in the north of Calabria, a lot is still done by hand. The best grapes are carefully selected and vinified under the strict watchful eye of mother Clara and her daughters. The passion that goes with it yields the award-winning wines of Tenute Pacelli.

Complex with plum and oak

After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures for at least six months in tonneau (large oak barrels of 500L). Pauciuri is a dark red wine with notes of sour cherry, leather and the licorice plants that surround the vineyard. This organic wine has soft tannins and good acidity. Complex on the nose with a hint of plum, dark fruit and a little oak. We recommend opening the wine a little beforehand to let it breathe. As they would say in southern Italy 'this is a real meditation wine'. Of course, it is also suitable for a few more years in the cellar to get used to Northern Europe. Drink Pauciuri with red meat such as a good steak or pair the wine with aged cheese.
