Roman wine tradition

Tenuta Augustea is a small winery on the north side of Mount Vesuvius in the village of Somma Vesuviana. Wine was already cultivated here in the time of the ancient Romans, probably because of the fertile volcanic soil. From Naples you can reach this beautiful place in the middle of the Vesuvius National Park in half an hour, where Marco Vincenzo Nocerino produces rare, typical Vesuvian wines.

Like father, like son

Today, the winery is run by Marco Vincenzo and his father Angelo, to whom Marco Vincenzo owes his passion for wine making. The grapes of Tenuta Augustea grow on ten hectares of the most fertile parts of Vesuvius between about 200 and 700 meters in altitude and are characterized by mineral-rich flavors. The harvest here is still done by hand and with the greatest attention to detail.

Falanghina

The Lysia is made with Falanghina grapes, one of the common white grapes in Campania. In the 20th century, the grape was used in this area to produce an inexpensive white table wine. However, in recent years it has been recognized that this grape has much more to offer than that. For example, Marco Vincenzo uses it to make a wonderful Frizzante.

Charmat method

The grapes are gently pressed and undergo fermentation in a steel tank. Before the fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to a second steel tank from which the carbon dioxide produced during the second fermentation cannot escape. This forms the bubble. During bottling, which is done under pressure, the bottle is filled with a mixture of cane sugar and white wine to balance the acids created by the carbon dioxide in the wine. This method is called the Charmat method.

Elegant bubble and fresh aromas

The result is a beautiful frizzante that is ideal as aperitif. The wine has an elegant bubble and fresh aromas of peach, citrus fruits, and white flowers. This full, bubbly wine is delicious for every day, but is not too simple on the palate.
