A combination of soil and ecosystem

The Falanghina is one of the most famous white wine varieties in the South of Italy. As with all his wines, winemaker Luigi passionately talks about how every Falanghina in the South of Italy is different. For Luigi, wine is a way of communicating elements of the soil and surrounding ecosystem. It is a combination of elements in the soil and air that create a specific taste.

The base of the famous Falerno

Falanghina grapes have a distinct taste that has been known for many centuries. The grape was brought to Italy by ancient Greek settlers and originates in the area around Naples. A few centuries later, the variety gained popularity during the Roman times, where it formed the basis for one of the most famous Roman wines: the Falerno.

Limestone and salt

Luigi combines elements of his unique limestone terroir containing salty hints from the Adriatic Sea, with the natural flavors of the Falanghina. In order to present these flavors in their purest form, Luigi produces his wines completely organically and the fermentation is natural (without the addition of yeast). The grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected before being gently pressed and allowed to rest with the skins for four hours. Then the grape must is transferred to steel tanks where fermentation takes place and the wine ages for five months on its own lees (sur lies).

Intense Falanghina

The result is a beautiful organic wine with an intense yellow color and golden reflections. This Falanghina has a distinct floral aroma and a characteristic taste of tropical fruits like pineapple and banana. In this wine too, one can distinguish the salty soil and sea breeze that give this wine a complex character. The wine is full-bodied and juicy and does great as an aperitif, but is also well-paired with pasta, white meat and seafood dishes.
