The tears of Christ
The Lacryma Christi is the appellation originating on Mount Vesuvius and the region around Naples. Legend has it that Christ found out that Lucifer had stolen a piece of heaven over the Bay of Naples. Christ wept and His tears fell on the Vesuvius. According to legend, this explains the fertile soil, and the resulting divine wines.

Or maybe the vulcanic soil
Archaeological examination of the microscopic residue on the inside of ancient wine barrels shows that this type of wine most closely resembles the wines the Romans drank 2,000 years ago. Whether it was the tears of God, or perhaps the fertile volcanic soil of Vesuvius, we don’t know. But what we know for sure is that these are certainly excellent wines, many centuries ago, and still today.
New top layer
In 79 BC Mount Vesuvius erupted, destroying Pompeii, Herculaneum, and many other Roman towns. The eruption also created a new lava top layer on which Marco Vincenzo's grapes grow today. For Marco Vincenzo, the eruption of 79 was the reason to call this wine, and its red sister, ERA 79.
Caprettone and Falanghina
This Lacryma Christi Bianco di Vesuvio DOC is made from a combination of 80% Caprettone and 20% Falanghina grapes, which are grown at an altitude of 400 meters on Monte Somma (a part of the volcano Vesuvius). The grapes are grown according to the Alberello method, free-standing “small grape trees” with a low yield per hectare, but very high-quality grapes.
Minerality and juicy
The volcanic soil yields a mineral-rich wine, full of aromas of a floral bouquet with notes of Mediterranean herbs. This juicy wine is well balanced, with the citrus fruits present on the palate accompanied by peach and plum.
