Roman wine tradition

Tenuta Augustea is a small winery on the north side of Mount Vesuvius in the village of Somma Vesuviana. Wine was already cultivated here in the time of the ancient Romans, probably because of the fertile volcanic soil. From Naples you can reach this beautiful place in the middle of the Vesuvius National Park in half an hour, where Marco Vincenzo Nocerino produces rare, typical Vesuvian wines.

Passion of the father and son

Today, the winery is run by Marco Vincenzo and his father Angelo, to whom Marco Vincenzo owes his passion for wine making. The grapes of Tenuta Augustea grow on ten hectares of the most fertile parts of Vesuvius between about 200 and 700 meters in altitude and are characterized by mineral-rich flavors. The harvest here is still done by hand and with the greatest attention to detail.

Napolitan grape

The Piedirosso grape traditionally comes from the area around Naples. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it spread over a larger area in Campania, including Mount Vesuvius. The Piedirosso (red feet) has this name because the stems (feet) of the grape bunch turn red when the grapes are ripe.

Recently independent

Originally, this grape was mainly used in combination with other local grapes such as Aglianico (as in the ERA 79 Rosso of this winery). But in recent years the popularity of 100% Piedirosso wines such as this Casamale has been growing. The Piedirosso grape produces elegant fruity wines with an intense red color.

Fruity and full-bodied

Marco Vincenzo's Piedirosso grows in the Vesuvius National Park and has been given the name Casamale, named after an old neighborhood in the village of Marco Vincenzo. This wine has deliberately not seen any wood. This emphasizes the subtle characteristics of the Piedirosso. The Piedirosso is not a grape as expressive as the Aglianico (see the red wines of Antonio Caggiano) which can mature for decades in the bottle. It is a grape with elegant perfumes, never too aggressive, with subtle tannins. Casamale is a full wine with fruity aromas of plum and red fruit with a spicy hint of nutmeg.
