Three different DOCGs
The town Taurasi is situated in the valley of the river Calore. Apart from areas where the Taurasi DOCG is grown, the Calore valley has two other DOCG areas where white wines are cultivated. Only in the region surrounding Taurasi it is possible to cultivate all three appellations: Taurasi DOCG, Fiano di Avellino DOCG and Greco di Tufo DOCG.
Apianum
The Fiano grape has a long history beginning in Roman times, when it was the base for one of the most important Roman wines called “Apianum”. In the mid-20th century this grape variety was close to extinction, but in recent years it is returning to center stage. Especially in the region around Avellino, quality has been increasing rapidly in recent years, resulting in DOCG status in 2003.
400 meters high in Lapio
Giuseppe named his Fiano di Avellino Béchar, and he grows his Fiano close to the small town of Lapio, a neighboring village a few miles from Taurasi. The grapes are grown on a height of 400 meters on a terroir of clay and limestone.
Late harvest
After harvest in the middle of October, Giuseppe ferments his Fiano in stainless steel, temperature-controlled tanks. Subsequently the wine is bottled and ripens in the bottle for at least three months before it is sold.
Enjoy like the Romans
This wine lets you enjoy life like the Romans did 2000 years ago. Bechar, a floral wine with aromas of candied citrus and spices, balanced by a pleasant minerality thanks to the volcanic terroir. This special wine will get even better you will leave it for another few years, during which the palate will develop a stronger nutty and spicy taste. This Fiano is ideal in combination with fish dishes, white meat, or poultry.
