Olive Oil from Sicily
The whole island of Sicily is covered with olive groves, which, thanks to the warm and sunny climate, produce excellent olive oil. Yet – so they say – the best Sicilian olive oil comes from Mount Etna. High up on the flanks volcano, where young and old hardened lava flows alternate, Etna is most fertile. Some vulnerable varieties only do well here. Here you will find the special Nocellara dell'Etna that makes the oils of Frantoio Romano so incredibly tasty.
Traditionally, olive oil is a family product here. Everyone knows an uncle or cousin with some olive trees. Every year the olives are brought to the frantoio (olive oil press) where they are pressed and taken home in jerry cans. This provides the entire family with oil for another year. Fortunately, there are also frantoios that do sell their oil, and we have selected a fantastic one for you.
