Campania

Ever since Roman times, the Campania region has been crucial to the country's food supply. That is why one of the most important Roman roads, the via Appia, was built as early as 312 BC to connect Benevento with Rome. Wine, olives, and grain, among other things, were transported to the capital via this road, to be consumed by the wealthy Romans.

Today, remnants of this rich history can be seen everywhere in Campania. But there is much more to Campania than the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Naples is perhaps our favorite city in Italy, but driving inlands, to the fresh, green mountains of the Irpinia region, it is hard to understand the lack of tourists. Here you find cute, small villages on the tops of hills, vineyards with extremely welcoming winemakers, and beautiful panoramic views and, of course never a shortage of great cuisine. Campania is like a dream.
