Southern Italy
Puglia
Puglia, the heel of the boot, has a totally different character every few kilometers. The north is characterized by the Gargano National Park, a wonderful green area with white limestone cliffs and traditional villages. Further south you will pass hot and happening Bari, before falling in love with the iconic Trulli in the Val d'Itria valley. The southern part, the sweltering Salento region, is characterized by imposing fortifications, situated on cliffs overlooking the bright blue Mediterranean. And finally, the beautiful baroque Lecce, a city that every Italy lover should visit at least once!
Due to its flat character and warm climate with many hours of sunshine, Puglia is ideally suited for farming. Traditionally, agriculture has played an important role and the Pugliese are proud of what their land has to offer. A Sunday afternoon lunch on a farm with an Italian family, where the produce fresh from the land is transformed into beautiful dishes by Nonna (grandmother), is a culinary experience that knows no equal.
